I had the Time of my Life!

When I was 10, I saw the movie for the very first time. It changed my life forever (OK, so a little dramatic). But it definitely changed the way I walked around for at least a week. I remember wearing a blue jean skirt for 5 days straight so I could swish it around like Baby did up on that stage as she waited for Johnny to come back for her so she could do the lift. And Johnny Castle..need I say more. Patrick Swayze won my heart with his charm and his swagger. To this day, he is the one actor that I will watch a movie for just because he is in it. I bought the People magazine with him on the cover and will cherish it forever. It breaks my heart that he is so sick and we pray for him and his family.

When we were in Chicago with the girls a few weeks ago, we saw advertisements for the play. I was speechless. My favorite movie of all time (by that I mean..the one that still makes me cry, gives me chills, makes me sing, and makes me wish Chris could dance a little like Johnny) was on Broadway! How amazing! Before we left, I was using the hotel computer to see when shows were and how much plane tickets would cost. And, could it be done in one day? Where there's Dirty Dancing (and a determined Dirty Dancing fanatic) there's a way. We booked the big day a couple of weeks ago and just returned last night. It was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The play was extremely similar to the movie...all my favorite songs, dances, kisses. When watching the movie all those 500+ times, I always thought "It would be so amazing to be that in that audience watching them do their final dance." I was in that audience yesterday..I had chills, I was singing, and I wanted to dance (and I would have, but I would have been yelled at by the theater employees). Thanks to Corneice and Cassie for going with me...I know it was a little adventuresome and out of our character to do something like this...but you only live once..and I could not go on without seeing this play. Remember...Nobody puts Baby in a corner!

To my "Dancing" companions...don't forget, if we are going down in the airplane..make sure you Blow, Blow, Blow!! And if you are flying with more than one child, pick the one with the most potential! HA!

Youth Talent Show 2008

We had such a great time at the youth talent show and chili/soup cookoff tonight. God has truly blessed us with an amazing church family. Chris and I have been involved with the youth for a few years now off and on. It is very time consuming; but so rewarding. I think what really motivates us is our love for God; but also at some point our children will be youth group members in this church. We want to play a part in the spiritual development of the people that may be leading them. Each of the youth group members means so much to both of us. Sometimes I think they teach us, more than we teach them. They are each amazing individuals and have a special part of our hearts. Our love for them is unconditional; just as if they were our own children. We appreciate their parents for allowing us to play such a critical part in their lives and love each and every one of them.

The food was amazing! Corneice won first place this year with her last minute potato soup. Of course, Chris and I were stressed that we would not have enough acts for the talent portion. We prepared an amazing skit with the youth group that they worked on for 2 weeks. It went wonderfully! The message was powerful and it gave the youth group something to really get involved in and stand behind. We had some amazing singers as well--Jamie and the Brown boys performed along with one of my friends Dawn. They all did so great! The kids played bells and we had a surprise performance from the "old" youth choir. A few of the youth members did what is called "raving." It's a slang word for a light show; it looks really cool! Thanks so much for everyone that helped with everything. There are some videos from the talent show at the bottom.

I almost forgot the comedian of the night...the youth got bored after we practiced their skit in the afternoon. They prepped Caleb for a "Bill Cosby" type performance. They asked him random questions and he definitely gave random answers. Enjoy!

Continue praying for our youth group. Pray for their continued devotion to Jesus Christ and our church. Please pray for their guidance through the tough decisions in life and pray that Satan doesn't stand in the way of their relationship with Jesus Christ. It is the most important one they will ever have.

Fall is Here!

It has been eventful few weeks..sorry haven't had time for updates. We have been so busy with Fall Festivals, Halloween, youth group activities, and family events (not to mention work is getting crazy because of the busy Christmas season and I have four more weeks left of school). I have lots of pictures of Halloween and some from the Fall Festival at East Montgomery. We also got to see Reed for his first birthday down at Gramma's house. Everyone had so much fun just watching the kids spend time with each other.

For Halloween, Kaelyn was a Pink Lady and Caleb was a lion. They both had such a great time trick-or-treating. This was really the first year they could walk around well with us with minimal complaining. It was definitely a fun night. Fall is my favorite time of the year so I hope kids have some fond memories of all the activities we have done over the past few months.
